Keeping Yourself in Your Own Shoes: Supporting Your Athlete's Mental Health!
As a follow-up to two NCAA student-athlete well-being studies conducted in 2020, student-athletes continue to report elevated levels of mental health concerns. The data indicated rates of mental exhaustion, anxiety and depression have seen little change since fall 2020 and remain 1.5 to two times higher than identified before the COVID-19 pandemic. The current emotional state of student-athletes leave parents wondering, “will my child communicate when they need help or will they attempt to grind it out, suck it up, press through or suffer in despair all on their own? How do I motivate my child to do their best in today’s climate? How am I to foster resilience while providing support through adversity, and disappointment?
In this 2.5-hour Seminar, Jonelle and her team will guide parents through 3 break-out sessions (orchestrated in a ‘Practice work-out Stations” setting).
Participants will:
- Fostering Psychological Safety and Active Listening in your home......and car after the games.
- Healthy Boundaries & Healthy Stress: Avoiding pitfalls of enmeshed boundaries and vicarious feelings/dreams in order to parent your athlete with empathy and emotional agility.
- Loss is Loss: Understanding the complexity of athletes coping with grief (ex. injury)
